Epic Poem

there once was a boy
who found a lovely toy
but didn't know where to keep it
he hid it out of sight
only played with it at night

there once was a cat
who always wore a hat
until she found out about
the country it was made
China, oh the memory would not fade
all those small hands
keeping up with demands
she wished not to go back
she would find a new hat,
one that is black
and made from the skins of seal
how warm it would feel
and no guilt to claim
overfishing is not to blame
the guilt is clear
the seal is what to fear
steals my fish
not even tuna in my dish
just a cam of ham
and some dried food we wouldn't even call spam

remember that boy
the one with the special toy
the toy had no light
it grew dreary of the night
the colour washed away
the face so very grey
why did the boy hide it away
because you see
the world would be
quite upset to find a boy
who keeps a flower as a toy
the little boy took it out to see its beauty
found instead a duty
to bury the poor grey plant
and never tell his aunt
about her prize flower
she would be so sour
to know its pretty bloom
was brought to doom
because he found it lovely so
and kept it for only himself to know

there once was a little girl
who's hair had not one curl
it was straight as a board
it could not be ignored
it was so thick
brushing was pure antic
under that hair
the little girl so fair
was as hot as could be
and she could hardly see
her mother was kind
some scissors she did find
and a bowl for good measure
to the girls displeasure
a haircut of proportions catastrophic
her hair was quite the topic
spoken around town
she kept her head down
oh the worries of girls
without any curls
when curls are in you see
its not nice to be
with a helmet of hair
people tend to stare
enough she said
and shaved off all her head
at the time she was bold
but now she was cold

fate is silly
the little girl met billy
a sad little boy
who had recently lost his lovely toy
he had a snobby cat
who would no longer wear her hat
seeing such a bald head
you might need this he said
as luck would have it
the hat did fit

the cat was happy to see it go
for the girl didn't know
about the dear fish
the cat did wish
to save from the seals
who were eating her meals
off to the north she went
a new hat she sent
to the little boy
who never had a real toy
and one to the little girl
who's hair had not a curl
but had grown back a lovely red
and on the card the cat did send
was a cat with a club
sipping beer in a pub
